Musharraf era backdoor parleys with India: no proof of secret diplomacy with FO: foreign minister
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Sunday rejected any progress on the Kashmir issue, with India, through backdoor diplomacy during the Musharraf regime. Talking to media here, he said that there is no record of such secret talks with the Foreign Office about such backdoor diplomacy during the previous government.



India offers wide-range talks to Pakistan
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): Apart from foreign secretary-level dialogues, India has proposed additional dialogues to Pakistan for the solution of regional issues, claims India media. According to private TV channel, the additional talks will mainly focus terrorism and regional security while the measures for confidence building and strengthening of bilateral trade will also be discussed.



Pak-India talks seen good for Afghan efforts
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): An easing of tension between India and Pakistan should help US-led efforts to stabilise Afghanistan though no one is expecting any quick breakthrough between the nuclear-armed rivals. India has proposed the first high-level bilateral talks since it suspended a peace process with Pakistan after Mumbai attacks in November 2008.



Curfew continues in occupied Srinagar
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): Many areas of occupied Srinagar, including Maisuma, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Maharaj Ganj, Amira Kadal remained under curfew on Sunday to stop anti-India demonstrations. Complete shutdown was being observed in different cities and towns of the occupied territory, KMS reported.



Protest march towards UN observers' office in Indian occupied Kashmir today
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): A big protest march will be held on Monday (today) towards the United Nations Observers' Office at Sonawar in occupied Srinagar to seek world intervention on Kashmir. The call for the march has been given by the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.



Youth's killing in Indian held Kashmir: family seeks justice
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): The family of student Zahid Farooq who was recently shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, has sought justice against the culprits involved in the heinous crime. Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, father of the deceased child while talking to KMS demanded for stern action against the killers of his son.



'India not sincere to resolve Kashmir through talks'
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): The Jammu and Kashmir National Front (JKNF), a constituent of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), has said that the oppressive policies of occupation authorities have made it clear that India is not sincere to resolve the Kashmir dispute through dialogue process.



Nato seeks broader ties with Pakistan, China and India
MUNICH (February 08, 2010): The head of Nato said Sunday that the alliance's troubled mission in Afghanistan shows it is vital to boost ties with nations like China, India and Pakistan. Drawing from flaws exposed in Afghanistan, where Nato is struggling to hold off a Taliban and al Qaeda insurgency, Anders Fogh Rasmussen called for the military alliance to become the hub of a broad global security coalition.



President summons Senate
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 54 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President has been pleased to summon the Senate to meet in the Parliament Building, Islamabad, on Tuesday, the 9th February at 4:00 pm.



Minister sees blasphemy law revision this year
WASHINGTON (February 08, 2010): Pakistan plans within this year to revise its laws against blasphemy, which have long been criticised as a way to abuse minorities, a government minister said. Minister for Minority Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti said religious reconciliation was a little-noticed priority for President Asif Ali Zardari's civilian government in Pakistan, which lies on the frontline of the US-led war against extremism.
