National Assembly passes Rs 2.9 trillion Budget
ISLAMABAD (June 26, 2009): The National Assembly on Thursday passed the Rs 2.9 trillion Federal Budget for 2009-10 followed by approval of the Finance Bill for the upcoming year incorporating 24 major customs duty, sales tax, income tax and federal excise duty (FED) related changes after thorough discussion in the House.

BUDGET BRIEFING 2009

TEXT (June 15, 2009): Income Tax - 1. Minimum tax restored: Section 113. Minimum tax was introduced for the first time by the Finance Act, 1991 and continued to be applicable with certain modifications over the years until it was a withdrawn by the Finance Act, 2008.




FINANCE BILL 2009

TEXT (June 14, 2009): A BILL: to give effect to the financial proposals of the Federal Government for the year beginning on the first day of July, 2009, and to amend certain laws.




BUDGET SPEECH (2009-2010): First woman to present budget
TEXT (June 14, 2009): I rise to present the Budget for the Fiscal Year 2009-2010.



The Budget
EDITORIAL (June 14, 2009): The federal budget for fiscal 2009-10 with a total outlay of Rs 2.48 trillion as against Rs 2.01 trillion in 2008-09 was presented by Minister of State on Finance and Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar in the National Assembly. The budget, as stated, seeks to obtain the twin purposes of stabilisation of the economy with a human face and also achieve growth with equitability.



Cabinet approves 2009-10 budget
ISLAMABAD (June 14, 2009): The Federal Cabinet, which met on Saturday with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in the chair, accorded approval of the Federal budget for 2009-10 financial year before presenting it to the National Assembly. The Prime Minister, referring to the difficult economic circumstances under which the government had to take difficult decisions, lauded the resilience of the people of Pakistan in facing the challenges.



Rs 31.569 billion allocated for education
ISLAMABAD (June 14, 2009): The government has allocated Rs 31.569 billion for education in the 2009-10 budget, increasing by 28 percent against the revised estimate of Rs 24.640 billion for the on-going fiscal year 2008-09. Rs 23.372 billion has been allocated for Tertiary Education Affairs and Services out of the total budget of Rs 31.569 which is the maximum portion of the Education budget about 74 percent.



Rs 646 billion allocated for PSDP
ISLAMABAD (June 14, 2009): The government on Saturday announced allocation of Rs 646 billion, with federal share of Rs 421 billion and provincial Rs 200 billion, to finance uplift projects in different sectors through its Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2009-10. Another Rs 25 billion has been earmarked for Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (Erra) which is not expected to receive any external financing in 2009-10.
