BRIDGE NOTES: Strip them down

WEEKEND MAGAZINE (February 06, 2010): Endplays in bridge are a fascinating facet of the game and one which gives you a real feeling of triumph looking at the helplessness and anguish of the poor defenders who feel so let down.

SPORTS WORLD: The tour ends with a grand finale
WEEKEND MAGAZINE (February 06, 2010): What a disgraceful finale to Pakistan's sojourn to Australia, which ended with another whitewash in the five-match One-day International (ODI) series, followed by an ugly incident of ball-tampering by all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who banned two Twenty20 matches by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the resignation of Iqbal Qasim as the chief selector.

TV THOUGHTS: Is target killing a push-button operation? Rangers step in, another police failure is implied
WEEKEND MAGAZINE (February 06, 2010): At least twice on Wednesday evening I heard on different channels the mention of the possibility that the target killings in Karachi were the result of a press button operation - and it seemed that whenever required these unfortunate tragic target killings took place. As if they were staged?

These artistically designed calendars and diaries serve as publicity materials that continue to remind its users about the company and its products for at least twelve months of a year. Japanese companies are among those who pay a lot of attention to its calendars and try to make it meaningful.

CAPITAL CULTURAL SCENE: Sarhad Festival - a commendable event
WEEKEND MAGAZINE (February 06, 2010): It was nice to see a lovely event titled 'Sarhad Photographic and Cultural Festival' at Shakarparian Hills under the auspices of Sarhad Tourism Corporation (STC) in collaboration with Lok Virsa. The three day festival was opened on January 29 with a beautifully created ambiance.

Woes and wonders of migration
WEEKEND MAGAZINE (February 06, 2010): The tradition of migration is common to humans as well as animals. The fascinating sight of migrating birds is a joy for onlookers. The seasonal journeys are undertaken by birds of many species for the reasons of food searching, habitat and weather. These birds do return to their original place after a rough period is over at the origin. While being away, these birds can look after themselves and their young ones.

Timelessness: root, ground and air
WEEKEND MAGAZINE (February 06, 2010): A strange sense of eternal timelessness pervades the work of Aqeel Solangi, as if compressed in its myriad layers of thin paint. Limned one upon the other, the lower layers shining through to create endlessly subtle variations of hues.

ART FACT: 'Forbidden' - a face of existence
WEEKEND MAGAZINE (February 06, 2010): An artistic appeal of the new gallery, Artchowk Gallery speaks of tremendous ideas, suggestions and the much-needed professional advice. One must realise that simply opening a gallery is not enough, for there was much more to it than just displaying a few pieces of artwork in a certain manner, a lot more needed to be done.

A happy landing
WEEKEND MAGAZINE (February 06, 2010): It was fresh and crispy at eight in the morning at London Gatwick airport. I was waiting in the lounge for my flight for Miami. I could see through the wall size glass that the big white Airbus being fuelled by a Van through a large pipe. The window panes had moist drops outside that showed it was still very cold despite sun had risen well above on the eastern horizon. The inside temperature was fairly maintained to a soothing extent for bodies.
