PCB snubs coach, Kamran Akmal for England Twenty20
LAHORE (February 09, 2010): Pakistan on Monday left out coach Intikhab Alam and wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal from its 14-man side to face England in two Twenty20 matches. There is speculation Intikhab Alam will be sacked over Pakistan's humiliating 3-0 Test and 5-0 one-day series whitewash in Australia last month, but a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official denied he had been dismissed.



Butt 'forgot' all-star tour plans, says Miandad
ISLAMABAD (February 09, 2010): Pakistan cricket great Javed Miandad says an opportunity for the nation to host its first cricket series since last year's terror attack on a touring Sri Lankan side fell through because the head of the cricket board forgot about it. Five limited-overs matches were planned for the southern port city of Karachi in from February 10-24 against an all-star West Indies team led by former Test captain Richie Richardson, Miandad told The Associated Press on Monday.



Pakistan 'must move on' after Australia, says Wasim
KARACHI (February 09, 2010): Former bowling great Wasim Akram Monday called for positive steps in Pakistan cricket following its humiliating defeats in Australia, saying the team needed a strong approach to progress. "Pakistan cricket must move on after what happened in Australia," Wasim told AFP.



Wasim Akram to inquire into poor performance of team
ISLAMABAD (February 09, 2010): Former Pakistan allrounder Wasim Akram has been appointed to the Pakistan Cricket Board's inquiry committee looking into the national team's poor performance on its just completed tour of Australia. The PCB said in a statement Monday Akram replaces ex-test batsman and PCB director of cricket development Haroon Rasheed, who resigned from the inquiry committee last week.



Delhi Games force Pakistan diplomats to move home
NEW DELHI (February 09, 2010): New Delhi's preparations for the Commonwealth Games have forced a group of Pakistani diplomats to search for new homes after their residential enclave was earmarked for a new road project. Delhi Development Authority (DDA) said the houses of the four Pakistani envoys stood on an 11.2 acre (4.5 hectare) site occupied illegally by a private builder in the Indian capital's upscale Vasant Vihar diplomatic enclave.



Pakistan's Naseem become fastest women of South Asia
DHAKA (February 09, 2010): Pakistan's Naseem Akhtar produced a historic and stunning show by becoming the fastest woman of the region when she snapped up a gold medal by winning the 100-metre sprint event of the 11th South Asian Games here on Monday. 22-year-old from Rawalpindi clocked 11.81 seconds to emerge as the queen of the track with her sterling show before a strong crowd at Bangabandhu National Stadium.



Promotion of sports: Malik Saad Shaheed Memorial Trust gets Rs one million grant
PESHAWAR (February 09, 2010): NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has highly appreciated the pragmatic approach of the Malik Saad Shaheed Memorial Trust towards promotion of sports especially to train and encourage teenage players in the province and FATA and declared to provide a grant of Rs one million.



Pakistan beat India in shootout to take gold in SAG
DHAKA (February 08, 2010): Defending Champions Pakistan retained their gold medal in the 11th South Asian Games Hockey competition when they came from behind to overpower arch-rival India 4-3 in a penalty shootout at Maulana Bhasani Stadium here on Sunday. The match ended in 1-1 stalemate in regulation and extra time thus going into a shoot-out session.



Deported Asif not cleared for UAE trip
KARACHI (February 08, 2010): Paceman Mohammad Asif will not be able to play in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as its authorities have refused to revoke a travel ban on him, an official said Sunday. The 27-year-old Asif was deported from the United Arab Emirates after being detained at Dubai airport last June when a small quantity of opium was found in his possession.



Australian team weakest for years: Imran
KARACHI (February 08, 2010): Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan has described the Australian team as one of the weakest he has seen in years. "This is one of the weakest Australian teams I have seen play, they are still recovering from the loss of some great players but they are surviving because of their strong domestic structure," Imran said during a cricket show on private news channel on Sunday.
