ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has allowed Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Waheeda Shah to contest in the upcoming general elections.
The directives were issued by a three-judge bench headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk on Friday during the hearing of Shah's disqualification to contest for two years.
Waheeda Shah slapped an Assistant Presiding Officer (APO) during by-polls in Tando Mohammad Khan upon which the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified her from taking part in the general elections.
However, Shah filed a petition in the Supreme Court against her disqualification by ECP in which she prayed that as her appeal was pending in the Supreme Court so till the decision of her appeal on ECP verdict should be suspended.
According to the ECP verdict, Waheeda Shah, a candidate of PPP for PS-53 constituency of Sindh Assembly was declared ineligible to contest elections for two years as she was found guilty of slapping a presiding officer during the by-elections last year.
It may be mentioned here that on November 4, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim had upheld the disqualification of Shah.
