The Council of Arab Ambassadors on Wednesday praised improvement in Pakistan's economy, and assured continued support to encourage Arab investors and businessmen to invest in the country.
At a meeting of the Council here, with Palestinian Ambassador Ahmed Abdel-Razzaq El-Salman in the chair, the ambassadors also assured to continue work for the trade and technical and economic co-operation between Pakistan and the Arab countries.
Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz, who was the chief guest, presented an overview of the significant improvement in the Pakistani economy.
He informed the Council about the highly impressive macro-economic performance has led to a greater stability and resilience of the economy.
Shaukat Aziz emphasised President Musharraf's support and commitment to economic reform and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali's stress on the importance of maintaining continuity of policies.
He also outlined the challenges facing Pakistan in the coming phase of economic development, underscoring a pro-active policy in this regard.
The finance minister said all the economic policies have an increasing focus on socio-economic sectors with an objective to alleviate poverty, and reiterated Pakistan is welcoming investments from Arab countries.
He also commended the contribution of Arab investors in Pakistan's economy and encouraged them to further increase their activities in the country, specially in the fields of IT and telecom, oil and gas, infrastructure, real estate, tourism, textiles, agriculture and agro-based industries.
The Council appreciated the ongoing reforms and improving economic situation in the country.
It also acknowledged the assurance of the Pakistani leadership and the government regarding the facilitation of incentives and support for foreign investment.
