Corporate Industrial Restructuring Corporation (CIRC) has made 158 sick industrial units operational throughout the country during the last couple of years, said Punjab Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Ajmal Cheema on Wednesday.
Speaking in a PTV programme, he said all these units have been handed over to old owners after restructuring and they are operating them successfully.
The minister said that about 97 sick units, after restructuring have been sold out, which helped recovery of Rs 46 billions various bank loans.
Ajmal Cheema said the government's efforts to restructure sick units would generate about 30,000 new jobs. To a question he said, about 740 sick units have been identified throughout the country for rehabilitation.
To another question, he said in the past non-professionals were granted loans for setting up new industries, which was the main reason for failure of these industrial units.
