Chief Justice Irshad Hasan Khan (Retd), Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, has directed that in the forthcoming bye-elections to NA and provincial assemblies constituencies, polling shall be held from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm without any break.
According to a press note issued on Saturday, the polling for the bye-elections to the following constituencies, including NA-196 Rahimyar Khan-V, NA-236 Sanghar-III, NA-240 Karachi-II, NA-243 Karachi-V, NA-246 Karachi VIII, PS-31 Khaipur-III, PS-127 Karachi-XXXIX is to be held on May 12, 2004.
The law provides that no person shall be given any ballot paper or be permitted to vote after the hour fixed for the close of the poll, except the persons, who at that hour, are present within the building, room, tent or enclosure in which the polling station is situated and have not voted but are waiting to vote.
The presiding officers shall count the vote immediately after the close of the poll, in accordance with law, in the presence of such of the contesting candidates, election agents and polling agents as may be present at the polling station.
