NWFP Chief Secretary Ijaz Ahmad Qureshi and Provincial Police Officer Muhammad Raffat Pasha on Saturday visited different parts of Peshawar so as to improve and ensure smooth flow of traffic.
During their visit, they issued necessary instructions to the quarter concerned to remove bottlenecks in the traffic system.
Capital City Police Chief Masood Ahmad Paracha and AIG (Traffic) Syed Imtiaz Altaf also accompanied them on this occasion.
The chief secretary and the IGP visited General Bus Stand, Qissa Khwani Bazar, Chowk Yadgar, GT Road, Circular Road, Lahori Gate, Tehkal Bala, University Town and Board, and reviewed traffic system there.
They said the traffic was like a mirror which reflects the discipline and development of that particular society. They personally reviewed the traffic system, and directed the quarter concerned to remove the traffic bottlenecks and ensure smooth flow of traffic.
The Traffic Police were further directed to hold a meeting with shopkeepers of different Bazars, elected representatives, elders of the area and transporters and get their suggestions and co-operation for making one-way traffic system in different places and send proposals in this connection.
They were further directed to implement traffic rules and regulations in its true spirit.
They also took strong exception to traffic conjunctions and directed for discouraging over speeding, overloading and picking of commuters from non-stops. They also made it clear that traffic flow should be kept smooth during peak hours.
They warned that traffic jamming would not be tolerated and stressed the need for Traffic Engineering, Traffic Education and Traffic Rules Enforcement to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
During their visit they pointed out various bottlenecks in traffic system and directed AIG (Traffic) for their early removal.
