The Punjab University Equivalence Sub-Committee held a meeting on Saturday to determine the equivalence of M.A, M.Sc. degrees offered by different universities.
The meeting was chaired by Punjab University's Registrar Maud-ul-Haq. In pursuance of directives of Punjab Governor, the Special Secretary, Higher Education, has constituted the sub-committee for the purpose.
In-charge Student Section University of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr M Khaliq-ur-Rehman, Director Punjab Public Service Commission, Muhammad Ali Bhatti, Section Officer, S&GAD Ghulam Yaseen and Deputy Secretary Finance Rukhsana Nadeem Bhutta also attended the meeting.
The Registrar gave a presentation on masters programmes offered by 24 public universities of the country. He said that Punjab Public Service Commission is facing problems in the equivalence of newly emerging disciplines and new master courses, so the meeting of sub-committee was called to determine the equivalence to adjust such subjects.
After discussing equivalence of degrees, issued by the chartered universities, annual and semester systems, syllabus and course contents and number of credit hours, the meeting observed that profession and specialised subjects should be offered by the relevant universities alone while public universities should be given prime importance and madrassa degrees should also be evaluated.
