Speaker Kyrgyz Peoples Representative Assembly Borubaev Altai Asyikanovich on Friday discussed with Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro the matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations with reference to promotion of parliamentary co-operation between the two countries.
Welcoming the Kyrgyz speaker, Senate chairman said that Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Kyrgyz Republic and was desirous of expanding it in all spheres.
He hoped that the visit of Kyrgyz speaker would enhance parliamentary co-operation between the two countries.
Referring to Pak-Kyrgyz historical and cultural links, Mohammedmian Soomro emphasised the need of more interaction and frequent visit of parliamentarians to promote people-to-people contact.
He apprised the visiting dignitary about the composition and working of the Senate.
The Kyrgyz speaker said, "there is wide scope of co-operation between the two countries in various fields."
He told the Senate chairman that Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Parliamentary Friendship Commission has been formed in Kyrgyz Assembly 'to foster our ties and to promote the objectives of the Commission.'
He lauded Pakistan's role in fight against terrorism.
The Kyrgyz speaker informed the Senate chairman that the purpose of his visit was to enhance parliamentary co-operation and called for harmonising the parliamentary co-operation between the two countries. He further informed the Senate chairman that Kyrgyzstan will have a unicameral legislature from next year and that elections to Kyrgyz parliament will be held in February next on single mandated constituency basis.
