KARACHI: Senior leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Shoaib Bukhari passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged ailment, party officials said.
Bukhari was admitted to Karachi’s Ziauddin Hospital after his health deteriorated in March this year. He, however, was shifted to his brother’s house two days before his death.
His funeral prayers would be held near his residence in Liaquatabad.
According to MQM spokesperson Aminul Haque, Bukhari, being a senior lawayer, used to deal with legal issues and matters of the party.
Bukhari was one of the most senior members of MQM as he joined the party in the late 1980s. He also served as MQM’s deputy parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly.
Besides being elected as member of the Sindh Assembly, Shoaib Bukhari also served as provincial minister on multiple occasions. He was not awarded the party ticket due to health issues in the 2013 general elections.
