In human society every city represents a civilisation. Karachi is the biggest and the greatest city of Pakistan. It has therefore a very special status. Society in Karachi encompasses very distinctive cultural influences. Many problems are met with when these influences are furthered. In the past the city was on the pinnacle of its glory. Even now it has a very central position in the life of the nation.
Karachi which is called 'mini Pakistan' is the heart of the country which supplies fresh blood to the whole body. Anti-state elements thorough intrigues and conspiracies want to pollute the whole body by making the heart sick.
The present Government has taken the reins of power in its hands for the last two years. The Sindh cabinet including the Chief Minister and the Governor have left no stone unturned to stabilise law and order situation in the province.
No praise is enough for the example that the Governor has set in making law and order prevail during the Muharrams, during Eid and Baqr Eid.
Honourable Dr Ishart ul Ebad collected at one point the 'ulema' of all schools of thought, and members of all sects for the restoration of peace and security in the city. He met heads of many organisations and prevailed upon them that if law and order situation goes bad in Karachi the economy of the whole country will suffer. Karachi is the heart of Pakistan.
The way Governor of Sindh stays busy night and day and the vigour with which he pursues the goals of the maintenance of law and order is without a parallel.
He is taking the people towards a bright future by making peace prevail during Eid, Baqr Eid and Muharram. It has also shown them that if one is sincere and his sentiments are pure then no destination is impossible to reach.
On 13 March 2004 during the one day international between Pakistan and India, Governor Sindh himself supervised security arrangements.
He took steps to make the arrangements foolproof which is commendable. Because for a long time the conspiratorial elements were trying to portray a very negative image of Karachi before the whole world.
On the engineered pretext of poor law and order situation in Karachi, they had caused a ban to be imposed on the holding of international cricket events in the city. But by holding a peaceful cricket match between India and Pakistan, the Governor caused the negative propaganda against the people of Karachi and the city to become useless.
The discipline that was maintained during the match gave birth to a strong hope that in future also international sports events will be held in the city. The peaceful holding of the cricket match between India and Pakistan and the way it paved for other events of such magnitude will be recorded in history in golden words and is an outstanding achievement of the Governor.
It is important to point out another achievement of Governor Sindh. He caused a ban to be imposed on the heinous and cruel custom of 'karo kari' which caused a stir or rather an earthquake in the corridors of the feudal lords. There was an awakening after the promulgation of the Ordinance among the people and everyone welcomed it.
It is a principle of history that nations come into being when they have a common goal to strive for otherwise their status can be likened to the grains of sand in the vast tracts of deserts.
We will have to wage a struggle after we are united so that we can finish off hatred and contempt and we are equipped to face the mean and dastardly conspiracies against the city and the province.
Let us resolve that we shall keep the pursuit of peace, of love, of brotherhood on. So that such refulgent springs issue forth that their light brightens up the whole country.
In this context it is the responsibility of the media of information to guide the people correctly, to give them a sense of direction.
Our goal in our dear country is to look after the tree of democracy so that the fruits it bears can be shared by all. It is not only our generation but the future generations as well which shall benefit from the fruits of democracy.
