Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has flayed the government for arresting around 300 of its leaders and workers from different cities of the country. Addressing a press conference, Naib Amir Jamaat Islami Punjab MNA Mian Mohammad Aslam and Deputy Secretary Information Shahid Shamsi said here on Friday that the government was usurping the democratic rights of the workers by arresting them in a pre-emptive action. Mian Aslam said that it was the democratic right of the people to take out peaceful procession. The MMA leader also claimed that government raided the MMA's district offices in Karachi and harassed the workers.
He was of the view that when rulers realised that protest against government's polices would be successful, they resorted to large-scale arrest of workers, however, he added that their party would not succumb to pressure tactics.
Mian Aslam said that MMA leaders had met the leaders of transport and trade unions and they have assured full co-operation in observing shutter down and wheel-jam strike across the country.
