RAWALPINDI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif are witnessing military exercises Raad-ul-Barq at Khairpur Tamewali near Bahwalpur on Wednesday.
The exercises are being carried out jointly by Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Rashad Mahmoud and the remaining two services chiefs are also present on the occasion, being telecast live on all national TV channels.
Also in attendance are Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
The exercises are aimed at checking the operational preparedness of the military. Tanks, aircraft, artillery and other heavy weapons are on display in the event. DG ISPR, Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa said on Twitter that the exercises are showcasing Pakistan’s combat readiness against enemies.
The prime minister was also briefed about the exercises. Lt-General Ishfaq Nadeem said on the occasion that the purpose of the exercises was to increase the capability of Pakistan’s military, which he added was fully capable of tackling any aggression.
