Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani said here on Friday that the participation of around 60,000 people in the public meeting of President Musharraf in Quetta has proved that Balochistan people have rejected the elements hurling threats and talking against Pakistan.
Addressing a news conference, he said it shows that the people of Balochistan want progress and prosperity. "I am much thankful to Balochistan people on behalf of Pakistan Government for displaying such an affection and love for the President and supporting his agenda," he said.
This was the largest public gathering in Quetta since Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto's reign, the Federal Minister said adding that the turnout was a clear evidence of the intense desire of Balochistan people for peace in the province. He assured complete support of other parts of the country to the people Balochistan for peace and prosperity in their province.
"We accompanied the President and visited the entire city without any protocol on Thursday evening and found the city quite peaceful and decorated with banners welcoming the President which is a positive development and message for us," he said.
Durrani urged the media to avoid highlighting the statements based on negative propaganda against Pakistan. He said these are not news and are meant to encourage the forces working against the interest of the country.
"Media should expose activities aimed to harm interests of Pakistan so that proper actions can be taken to ensure security of the country," he stressed, adding that the respect and regard for Pakistan is the obligation of every citizen.
He said the government is taking positive steps for the newspapers of Balochistan and added that more Balochistan people would also be inducted in official media including Bolan TV and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation.
