The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Saturday criticised NAB's victimisation against the opposition and demanded accountability for those people who are sitting in the Government to save their skin. Punjab PPPP President Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said this while addressing the workers in Arifwala.
Earlier he was warmly accorded at Sahiwal and taken to Arifwala in a procession. Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that NAB's conference should also reflect the cause that why accountability under the dictatorship had become a laughing stock in the country, he said.
"The conference must make it clear the arrest of political leaders in the name of accountability while allegations of corruption against the members of the ruling elites were shelved in the name of 'honest mistakes made in good faith'". He asked the conference that was it accountability 'across the board horizontally and vertically' or a farce to exempt military officers and target political opponents alone. Regarding oil prices, he said that was it transparent accountability to first admit mega corruption in the non-transparent fixation of oil prices and then to declare that the petroleum ministry was influencing the probe?
He said that the Parliament was informed in May 2005 that Khosgi Sugar Mill of Fauji Foundation was sold in a questionable manner but the NAB has not taken any action. On the other side, he said that corruption in the Steel Mills privatisation was exposed in the Supreme Court but the NAB had turned a blind eye.
