Army concerned at slow pace of NAP implementation

ISLAMABAD: The corps commanders have stressed that implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) needs to be expedited jointly by relevant stake-holders for a lasting peace and stability in the country.

A Corps Commanders Meeting was held under it chairmanship of Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa at GHQ in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

Reviewing the implementation of the NAP, the corps commanders expressed concern over the slow implementation and undersigned to need for as speedy execution.

The forum expressed its confidence in the performance of military courts. However, the decision for reinstatement of military courts rests with the government. The Dawn Leaks issue was also discussed in the meeting.

The Army Chief informed the participants about the discussion with the government authorities during last security conference, which included phased fencing of the Pak-Afghan border, repatriation of Afghan refugees, judicial, police and madrassa (seminary) reforms, and restarting execution of death sentences to terrorists awarded by the military courts.

The forum also reviewed the support of Pakistan Army in conducting 6th housing and population census. The Army Chief said the army shall undertake this task as a national service.

The forum reaffirmed the resolve to thwart the sordid designs of hostile agencies against the security and development of the country with the support of the nation.

The meeting said that the Pakistan Army will play its due role towards defence and security of the motherland. It said that sacrifices made by the resilient people of Pakistan and its brave soldiers will not go in vain.

The Corps Commander Conference also reviewed geo-strategic and security environment with special focus on internal security. Pak-Afghan border situation and ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) by India also came under discussion.

The forum expressed satisfaction over the performance of security forces, including police intelligence and law enforcement agencies (LEAs), for their effective response to recent terrorist incidents and security arrangements for PSL final at Lahore.

The participants of the forum discussed operation Raad-ul-Fasaad in detail. On the occasion, the Army Chief said that Raad-ul-Fassad is a comprehensive operation against terrorism. He said the operation is not against any particular race, sect or group.

The forum also acknowledged participation and support of Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy in the ongoing operation.
