The Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department is carrying out an extensive campaign of vaccinating 12 million cattle heads throughout the province to stop diseases in the monsoon and flood season.
Department sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that the campaign started in mid-June and would continue till September 30. Project Director Disease Diagnosis is heading the campaign. The department has set up 577 flood relief centres where 400 veterinary officers and 2,231 assistants are working to vaccinate the animals.
Reports reaching here from different districts say the department has vaccinated 48,34,904 animals and 27,42,806 birds. While the total number of treated animals is 3,85,510 and that of the birds are 29,192. The district-wise break-up shows that the large animals vaccinated in the past two days in Lahore are as under:

G. Khan 6360, Layyeh 3900, Rajanpur 3980, Muzaffargarh 5900 and Nankana Sahib 5020.
The sources also said the department had stored dry fodder on its four livestock farms in the province to dispatch it in the areas where it is mostly needed.
