Punjab Government will give 1,000 laser units at half price this year, as part of its agriculture reform programme. MNA Mian Farhan Latif talking to APP here on Monday said that effective measures were being ensured to strengthen the agriculture sector by extending maximum facilities to farmers.
These include soft term loans to purchase fertiliser, certified seeds, pesticides and other agri inputs as well as appliances, while irrigation reforms were also being implemented countrywide to increase water supply and bring more land under plough, he observed.
He said the Punjab Government in total had to provide as many as 2,500 laser units to the farmers at half price during three years. Of them 500 were issued in the first year, 1,000 later and the 1,000 units batch to be provided this year.
Of this year's lot, 182 units had been allocated for the former Faisalabad Division, he said, adding that Faisalabad district would get 65, Jhang 80 and Toba Tek Singh would get 37 laser land levellers.
Farmers intending to get the laser units must have their own tractor, and they would be duty bound to provide that unit to other farmers of the area on rental basis to level minimum 900 acres of land, he disclosed.
He said forms to apply for that unit would be available from the offices of concerned district officer Water Management, while applications could be submitted to the concerned district allotment committee by August 31. Mian Farhan said that those units would not only help farmers save canal water, but also help increase their per acre yield.
