The grand tribal Jirga remained failed to make any breakthrough and bringing peace in the restive North Waziristan Agency and revival of the peace agreement with the tribesmen of the region.
The tribal jirga after returning from Miranshah on Tuesday again assembled at Governor's House for talks with Governor Lieutenant General Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai (Retd) and officials of Fata Secretariat. The meeting viewed the situation in North Waziristan Agency from all angles and various pros and cons of the matter were discussed in detail.
After the meeting, the Jirga members informed the officials of Fata Secretariat that since the situation in North Waziristan Agency was not conducive enough for them to work as a whole, the jirga members, particularly those hailing from North Waziristan Agency and South Waziristan Agency would visit Miranshah to make fresh efforts for restoration of situation in the area, in their individual capacities.
During the meeting, it was emphasised that the channels of communications would remain open and all efforts to restore peace in the area would continue in future.
The NWFP governor has constituted a 45-member grand tribal jirga and 15-member coordination committee for holding negotiations with the local tribesmen for the saving the peace agreement.
The peace agreement signed between the government and local tribesmen in September 2006 was succeeded in maintaining some kind of normalcy in the troubled North Waziristan Agency. But, on July 15 the local tribesmen or Taliban announced ending of the agreement after raising three objections over the matter.
After the formal annulment of the agreement, the region witnessed suicide attacks and firing on convoy of the security forces. The incident of firing at the camps of security forces and check posts of the Khasadar force were started once again in the area.
