The Supreme Court has decided that the review petition, filed against retention of offices of President and Chief of the Army Staff by President Musharraf, 17TH constitutional amendment, and Legal Framework Order (LFO), would be heard by a seven-member full bench of the court.
A four-member bench comprising Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Faqir Mohammad Khokhar, Justice Mian Shakarullah Jan, and Justice Javed Buttar took up the review petition filed by Pakistan Lawyers' Forum. Counsel for the petitioner A K Dogar pleaded that the petition was heard and dismissed by a five-member bench of the court, headed by Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui in April 2005.
He argued that the petition for review of the judgement pronounced by the five-member bench should be heard by a larger bench of at least seven judges. The court accepted the petitioner's plea and said that the review petition would be heard soon.
