Heavy downpour lashed the provincial metropolis on Thursday, making the weather pleasant but created problems for motorists and residents of low-lying areas. Local met office recorded 32 mm rain at the airport and 28 mm in the city. The maximum temperature recorded was 31 Celsius while the minimum temperature was 22 Celsius.
City's low lying areas, thoroughfares in some posh localities, including Hussain Chowk and Fardouds Market in Gulberg, Shah Jamal, some areas of Allama Iqbal Town, Township and Johar Town presented look of rivulets.
The worst affected areas were Sandha,Krishan Nagar,Ghausia Colony along Wahidat Road,Model Town Extension,Chauburji, various localities of walled city, Angoori Bagh, Bhati Chowk,Waris Road, Lawrence Road, Bank stop Ferozepur Road, Kanchi, Mazang and various localities along Multan Road.
As most roads, especially in walled city area were under knee deep water, traffic had to move at snail's pace resulting in frequent traffic jams on different roads.
Meanwhile according to weather pundits a westerly wave is moving across Kashmir while monsoon current from Arabian sea is reaching Punjab up to 7000 feet. Scattered thunderstorm and rain has been forecast for Kashmir, NWFP and some parts of Punjab including Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Gujranwala division while isolated thunderstorm and rain has been predicted for Lahore division and mainly dry for Bahawalpur division.
