Most of the weaving units in Liaqatabad, Lakar Mandi and other parts of Jhang Road remained closed on third consecutive day because tension between workers and owners is still existing and police contingents have been posted to avert further any mishap.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case against 60 workers and six of them rounded up, while the condition of three owners of weaving units are out of danger in Allied Hospital Faisalabad, who were injured in attack of protesting mob and machinery of two factories were burnt two days ago.
Addressing a protest meeting, Khalid Mehmood Cheema, Chairman and Muhammad Akram Ghouri, Vice Chairman, All Pakistan Cotton Powerlooms Association (APCPA) expressed grave concern over the violence against the owners of the power looms and ransacking their factories for grabbing Jagga Tax etc. They said that some outsiders are creating law and order situation in Industrial City and damaging peaceful atmosphere.
The power looms owners have demanded that responsible miscreants should be arrested immediately and local administration should provide protection to their investment and factories etc. They warned that if their demands were not met, the power looms owners will close their business for indefinite period.
Talking to newsmen, Mian Abdul Qayyum, Central President, Pakistan Textile Workers Union demanded immediate release of arrested workers and cases registered against them should be withdrawn immediately. Otherwise, the workers strike will not only continue but the workers of other industrial units would also join the protesting workers. He demanded that the salaries of workers should be increased as per agreement. Furthermore, the Advisor to the Chief Minister Punjab, S.A. Hamid visited the Allied Hospital Faisalabad and met with the injured power looms factory owners.
