The Government of Japan granted financial support of US $50,771 (approx Rs 4 million) under the GGP programme (Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects) to the Social Development Organisation, a non-governmental organisation, for the implementation of the project "Construction of Primary School in Gojra, District Toba Tek Singh, Punjab.
Chihiro Atsumi, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan and Ms Shazia Zia, President, Social Development Organisation signed the agreement for the project on Thursday at the Japanese Ambassador's residence in Islamabad. The grant will be utilised for the construction of a school building with 5 class rooms, one staff room, one warehouse and four toilets.
Through this project, 220 students who were denied admission, due to the low capacity of other public schools in the area will be provided comfortable, tranquil and safe conditions.
At the signing ceremony, Ambassador Atsumi said that the Government of Japan gives priority to the education and human resources development sector and has been extending Japanese Official Development Assistance to help Pakistani children receive primary education. Ambassador Atsumi also expressed his hope that this project would contribute to the human resources development of Pakistan and thus further strengthen the already existing friendly ties between the people of Japan and Pakistan.-PR
