Uthal check post: PCG directed to submit proposals to lessen commuters sufferings

Senate Standing Committee on Interior on Wednesday directed Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) to submit proposals within a month that how the sufferings of commuters could be lessen at Uthal check post. Chairman of the Committee, Senator Talha Mehmood said that the matter of the Uthal check post had been referred to the standing committee after it was raised in Senate.
He expressed dissatisfaction over the seizure of illegal items by the coast guards at the check post saying that the committee would recommend deployment of sniffer dogs and sophisticated scanners at the check post, which would not only save the time of commuters but also ensure check on smuggling, says a statement issued here.
Talha said that there were only two options either to remove the check post or devise a strategy through which sufferings of commuters and transporters could be eliminated. He said that the committee has recommended doubling the quota of Balochistan in PCG posts and advertising the posts in all local newspapers.
He was of the view that the creation of more jobs was the only way to save the Baloch youths from frustration and indulging in militancy. Senator Talha said that the committee has recommended improvement and reinstatement of the levies-force with current benefits and position.
