The Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Babar Awan has pressed the United Nations (UN) Secretary General to constitute an international tribunal investigate the murder of late Benazir Bhutto without any further delay. He was addressing Benazir's death anniversary function organised by the Pakistan People's Party Punjab wing at Baghbanpura on Wednesday.
While paying emotional and glowing tributes to the charismatic personality and leadership of the late prime minister and PPP leader, Benazir Bhutto, Babur maintained that she was an asset of the country, who fought for the democracy, people's rights and blocked the way of dictators. Benazir was pioneer of promoting dialogue between civilisations and she presented the true image of Islam before the West.
Recreant elements have killed the proud daughter of Pakistan, instead of facing her politically he bemoaned. 'The PPP is still alive despite all odds and we will continue our struggle for the people of Pakistan and Benazir's memories will be always alive in our hearts and souls,' he said. Further, Benazir's message, her honour, courage and Pakistan will always stay alive, he added.
Maintaining that the late party chairperson was a world leader, he said that she was of the top leaders in the world whom people used to listen with full attention. Elements involved in her murder will be brought to book, he assured. Today, we need national cohesion and unity, as she is not among us now, he said.
The Senior Minister, Raja Riaz in his speech said that late Bhutto was a 'Shaheed e Jumhuriat' who strengthened democracy with her blood. Martyrdom is the legacy of the PPP, he said. Bhuttos are the only political family in the whole, world who have given their blood for the cause of people and democracy.
The PPP Punjab President, Rana Aftab told that the party's raising day would be celebrated on November 30 in Lahore. The Provincial Minister, Farooq Ghurki, the PPP MPAs, party leaders, workers and general public attended the function in large numbers. The function concluded with a prayer for late Benazir.
