An special court in India on Tuesday ordered arrest warrants for 22 Pakistani nationals suspected of involvement in the Mumbai terrorist attack last November, news reports said. Those named in the warrants include Hafiz Sayeed, the chief of the Jamaat-ud-Daawa and Rehman Lakhvi, the head of operations for the organisation Lashkar-E-Taiba, according to the IANS news agency.
Special Judge ML Tahilyani of the Mumbai court that is hearing the case directed India's federal investigative agency and the city's police chief to initiate the process of issuing the warrants through Interpol. Public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam on Monday submitted a list of the 35 suspects to the court, saying that since the addresses of 22 of them were available, arrest warrants should be issued.
More than 170 people were killed in the Mumbai attack which India claims was planned by Lashkar-e-Taiba and executed by 10 gunmen who came to Mumbai by a sea. Indian security forces killed all but one of the gunmen - Mohammed Ajmal Amir, alias Kasab, currently on trial.
