Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab has arrested Sheikhupura TMA Tehsil Officer (Planning and Co-ordination) Ejaz Chughtai and Building Inspector Shehzad Ahmad on charges of corruption and misappropriation of Rs 9.01 million in commercialisation fee of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA).
Anti-Corruption Investigation Team had recovered Rs 766,000 from the accused, while Director Anti-Corruption Lahore Region Zulfiqar Ghuman has widened the scope of investigation and constituted a five-member investigation team to probe the matter, said a hand-out issued here on Saturday.
According to details, Sheikhupura DCO had sent a reference to ACE pointing out that Chughtai and Shehzad Ahmad were involved in corruption and misappropriation of Rs 9.01 million in commercialisation fee. The ACE Director directed Deputy Director ACE Sheikhupura Tariq Mehmood to immediately register a case and arrest the accused.
A case, on the basis of the reference, was registered in Police Station ACE Sheikhupura and both the accused were taken into custody. The investigation team recovered Rs 766,000 from the accused so far and physical remand of the accused has been obtained for further recovery.
Zulfiqar Ghuman also constituted a five-member investigation team comprising Deputy Director Tariq Mehmood, Okara ACE Deputy Director Rana Khalid Mehmood, Nankana Sahib ACE Assistant Director Aftab Ahmad, Nankana Sahib ACE Circle Officer Mian Arshad and Sheikhupura ACE Circle Officer Abid Joya. Anyone involved in corruption during investigation process would be held without discrimination and more arrests are expected in this case, said ACE Director Zulfiqar Ghuman.
