Equities on Thursday moved both ways on the Lahore Stock Exchange and finally ended in positive zone amid descending transaction volume on account of volatile situation that forced the investors to adopt cautious approach. The LSE-25 index gained 15.46 points and was closed at 3641.24 against 3625.78 of Wednesday, while trading turnover was squeezed to 2.084 million shares compared with last day volume of 3.125 million shares.
The market was opened on mixed note and kept on moving up and down while volatile situation that continued throughout the day forced the investors to adopt "wait and see policy" to avoid financial losses. Adamjee Insurance, Engro Foods, Lucky Cement, Cherat Cement, D G Khan Cement, Attock Refinery, Fauji Fertiliser, Fatima Fertiliser, Bank Alfalah and Nishat Mills attracted the investor.
However, because of profit taking, Engro Corporation, Pakistan Oil Fields, Byco Petroleum, PTCL, Askari Bank, Summit Bank, Wateen Telecom and WorldCall Telecom stayed in minus zone. The gainers were more than the losers. Of 95 active issues, 27 companies posted gains, 15 registered losses while 53 companies were ended at their previous closing.
Adamjee Insurance gained Rs 3.42, Engro Foods was appreciated by Rs 3.02, Lucky Cement was improved by Rs 2.89, while Cherat Cement was up by Rs 1.18. Engro Corporation lost Rs 1.37, Pakistan Oil Fields was declined by 82-paisa, PTCL shed 54-paisa while Honda Atlas Cars was down by 36-paisa. Fauji Cement with trading of 456,499 shares topped the volume leaders followed by Bank of Punjab with 216,355 shares.
