The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday summoned former Senator Ammar Khan and former IG Police Punjab Azhar Nadeem in the Qasr-e-Zauq property case in which the accused had cheated the public by grabbing poor people's property. Acording to a press release, the accused appeared before the investigation team and recorded their statements in connection with the Rs 480 million scam.
Meanwhile, NAB said it recovered 200 tons of Pakistan Railways' stolen rail track during a raid on warehouses. A NAB investigation team was informed that the railway track was being sold in the Misri Shah Iron Market in Lahore. After confirmation, NAB informed the IG of the Railway Police and conducted a raid on five warehouses. Railways authorities were unaware about this fraud till NAB officials informed them, the press release said. Pakistan Railways Police have registered FIRs against the accused on NAB instructions. Five people have been arrested in this regard. The track supply officer lodged complaints regarding misappropriation of railways material.
According to preliminary investigation, the arrested persons said that almost 500 tons of railway tracks reached various warehouses across Pakistan every week. The press release said that NAB authorities had identified elements behind the theft of the material. NAB identified those persons as: M Yousuf of Jacobabad (Wireless Operator of SP Local Police, Sukkur Division), M Ismail and M Yaseen (brothers), Gul Hassan of Sukkur and Ali Ahmad of Lahore.
Bao Sajjad and Rizwan were said to be the main buyers of said material. An accused, Mian Qasim, admitted purchasing of 174.2 tons of railways material valued at Rs 8,706,101 from Yousuf between January this year to-date. Some bank credit vouchers of money deposited in the account of M Yousaf (ABL, Bank Al-Habib and MCB) had also been seized from Mian Qasim's warehouse.-PR
