The Central Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA), Shehzad Salim meets with Consul General of Germany in Pakistan, Dr Tilo Klinner regarding the proposed EU Trade Concession Package for Pakistan. In this meeting Dr Klinner informed him that Germany has from the beginning been one of the driving forces behind the EU trade preferences and is now looking forward to a swift enactment of EU regulations.
He further stated that Germany has always pushed for trade concessions for Pakistan and will continue to do so in the future. Dr Klinner informed that the European Parliament is an independent body, like any other Parliament, and its views should not be attributed to the views of member states' governments of the European Union. The Consul General reiterated that the German Government is confident that the EU Parliament will not delay its decision on the matter.
Chairman PRGMEA thanked the Consul General for his Government's continued support for Pakistan in this matter and hoped that Germany will also lend full support to Pakistan's bid for securing GSP Plus from the EU, starting 2014. Shehzad Salim also highlighted the importance of the textile sector in Pakistan's overall economy and the benefits it would receive, in terms of foreign exchange earnings and employment, should Pakistan qualify for GSP plus.-PR
