The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) will become the only College of the entire Muslim states due to its strict merit policy, transparent and non-political character. The college has got world-wide fame and catering the demand of 85 percent specialists' doctors of Pakistan. This was stated by the speakers while addressing Golden Jubilee Celebrations of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan at its Regional Centre at Abbottabad.
The Vice President of CPSP Prof: Doctor Shoaib Shafi was the guest of the honour. Those who addressed the function were included Chief Executive Ayub Teaching Hospital Complex Dr Zia-ur-Rehman , Principal Prof; Dr Abdur Rashid, Vice Chancellor Khyber Medical College Peshawar, Dr Hafeezullah, Professor Dr Jehangir Khan, Dr Muhammad Akbar and Dr A J Khan former principal Ayub Medical College.
Meanwhile Professor Dr General Suleman and Professor Dr Rizwana presented state of art, lectures. The topic of the both lecturers was the child health and mortality rate of child and mother in Pakistan. They were of the view that we are confronting with alarming situation with reference to this topic and as per millennium development goal we are lagging behind in our commitments to international community.
They stressed the need that CPSP should come forward to coop the alarming situation. They said that under the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the Ministry Health has been abolished by the government, which has created huge vacuum in term of national level policies they added. The CPSP should also do something in this regard as well.
The speaker appreciated that serious efforts were under way to improve the basic health care facilities in the country. The speakers also paid rich tributes to renowned doctor of the town Dr A.J. Khan and termed him as living legend. A documentary on the life and achievements of Dr A.J.Khan was also played on the occasion.
Addressing the function Dr A.J. Khan called for efforts to resolve the problem of the shortage of doctors at rural areas of the province. Other speakers while throwing lights on the achievements of CPSP went on to say that this prestigious institution has earned world fame by maintaining merit and transparency.
The chief guest Professor Dr Shafi lauded the efforts of Dr Jehangir Khan for successfully and organising national level event in Abbottabad and assured that CPSP will allow Regional Center to start some sub specialties in the center besides catering its other demands of multi-national and national companies of medicines have also organised the stalls of their products. The participants took keen interest in these stalls and termed them useful efforts of the organisers. On the occasion, a documentary about the CPSP also displayed while prominent guests and speakers were given souvenirs.
