Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed Headquarter of the Naval Strategic Force Command (NSFC). Lieutenant General Khalid Ahmed Kidwai (Retd) Director General Strategic Plans Division and other senior Naval and Military officers were also present on the occasion.
A Navy official said that NSFC was one of the three major unified commands of the Pakistan Armed Forces responsible for the defence and protection of naval and naval-nuclear assets in the country. The command was commissioned on June 24, 2004, at Naval Combatant Headquarters after the concept was approved by then-chief of Naval Staff Admiral Shahid Karimullah. The Naval Command is responsible for operational planning, directives, and deployment of nuclear weapons on its naval vessels.
Chief guest Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz, Commander Naval Strategic Force Command, highlighted that HQ NSFC would perform a pivotal role in development and employment of the Naval Strategic Force. The Force, which is the custodian of the nation's second strike capability, will strengthen Pakistan's policy of Credible Minimum Deterrence and ensure regional stability. The Chief of the Naval Staff commended the quality of work in making the HQ NSFC a state of the art facility. He declared that the day marks the formal establishment of the Naval Strategic Force Command of Pakistan.
