Former skipper Aamer Sohail while complimenting Pakistan's impressive victory in fourth One-day International over West Indies in St. Lucia said that youngster are not properly groomed. "Our top order responded well which allowed us to overhaul West Indies good total an over earlier" he told APP while commenting on Pakistan's six wicket victory on Duckworth/Lewis method which gives them 2-1 lead in 5-match series.
"Misbah and Umar really batted well and dominated the West Indies bowling for the first time in the series which was good sign", commented. "It was very important for our top order to perform to take the pressure away from the middle order to perform to their best", Aamer a veteran 47 Test and 156 ODIs, said.
He hoped that highly rated Umar Akmal will maintain his runs spree to cement his place in the team. He however he was not happy the way Asad Shafiq, Umer Amin and Harris Sohail are being treated. "Seniors are deliberately are not allowing the these youngsters to settle down. They deserve a better and just treatment and handling with an eye on 2015 World Cup", a member of 1992 World Cup winning team, added.
He said Umer Amin was tried in one match in the Champions Trophy and than dumped and so was the case of Asad Shafiq who being dropped and included in the team on regular basis. "If you don't allow the youngsters to settle down and give them proper chances and grooming they cannot establish themselves", he pointed out. He rejected the idea of using Umer Akmal as wicketkeeper/batsman. This is not good for his talent and we needed a specialist wicketkeeper", he maintained.
He said when Kamran Akmal kept well, he batting form went down. There is Sarfraz Ahmed, Muhammad Rizwan and couple of other keepers. "We must got to select and groom good wicketkeeper which is very important for our current cricket and an eye on the future", he said. "It was imperative to try wicketkeepers in a bilateral series and best should be retained and groomed", he remarked. He advised Shahid Afridi to concentrate on his batting and fitness. He hoped that after gaining morale-boosting win, they will go all out in the fifth and final ODI played in St. Vincent on Wednesday.
