Taiwan stocks rose 1.1 percent on Tuesday, beating most regional bourses, as investors snapped up recently beaten-down shares such as smartphone maker HTC and TSMC. HTC and TSMC both jumped more than 3 percent, boosting the electronics sub-index by 1.8 percent. The two had slumped in recent sessions due to their cautious outlook for the third quarter.
The main TAIEX index climbed to 8,198.07 about one hour into trade. Banking stocks were up 0.6 percent. The Taiwan dollar edged up T$0.043 to stand at T$29.892 to the US dollar.
