The Punjab government has decided to constitute four teams at Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad regions for recruitments of specialist doctors on vacant posts. Principal of medical college will be head of the team whereas professors of concerned discipline, Commissioner and Director Health Services will be included in the team. Special Secretary Health has been included in the Lahore committee while Additional Secretaries Health in the committees of other three regions.
All recruitments will be made purely on merit basis. Doctors of 10 basic specialties will be posted at DHQ hospitals whereas doctors of five basic specialties at THQ hospitals. This was stated by Advisor on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq while presiding over a meeting of Steering Committee to review the implementation on the steps approved by CM Punjab Muhammad for THQ and DHQ hospitals under his Health Reforms Roadmap.
Parliamentary Secretary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir, Secretary Health Jawad Rafiq Malik, Special Secretary Health Suleman Mufti, Project Director Punjab Health Sector Reforms Programme Ali Bahadur Qazi, Additional Secretary Health Development Mehmood Hassan, Director Health (HQs) Dr Ahmad Afifi and other officers attended the meeting. Kh. Salman Rafiq said that CM has approved special incentives for specialist doctors posted at THQ and DHQ hospitals.
The meeting also constituted committee for ensuring availability of basic medicines in the said hospitals, assessment as per requirement and drug forecast system at district level. Moreover, the meeting directed to immediately call a report from all hospitals about availability of medical equipments and repair, maintenance and replacement of machinery and equipments. A committee has also been constituted in this regard. The meeting also constituted a committee for the repair and improvement of infrastructure and buildings of DHQ and THQ hospitals.
Secretary Health Jawad Rafiq Malik said that this package is different for every hospital as it has been prepared keeping in view the far-flung areas and other factors. He said that the Chief Minister has also given approval to the cash encouragement for MS of THQ and DHQ hospitals and EDOs Health on performance basis.
