Rice prices fell in the world's top three exporters of the staple grain this week after a month-long rally fuelled by prospects of export to Bangladesh, traders said on Thursday. Bangladesh has emerged as a major importer of the staple grain this year due to depleted stocks and record local prices following flash floods.
The country could import as much as 1 million tonnes this year, and has struck deals with Vietnam, while considering possible deals with Thailand and India.
