Confident Sarfaraz reveals reason behind Wahab Riaz selection
Pakistan cricket captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is confident in his team’s ability to put on a good show in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019.
“All the teams are really balanced. I think people are going to watch some great cricket,” said Sarfraz at the Captains presser.
“Since winning the World Cup in 1992, making the final in 1999 here in England and then Champions Trophy in 2017, we go well in England so we are confident we will do well and challenge,” said Sarfaraz, who led Pakistan during the ICC Champions Trophy in England in 2017.
Talking about the recently concluded ODI series against England, the skipper said that he has got no regrets over it after the visitors lost the series 4-0, and was keen to highlight the positives from the series.
"England ODIs weren't warm-up matches, we faced a top quality side and learnt a lot. The batting performed well but we're working hard on the fielding and hopefully we'll do well as a team"
The skipper also dwelled upon the last minute selection of fast bowler Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir in to the final-15 squad, saying that the duo were picked as they were ‘senior players.’
"We picked Wahab because he knows how to bowl with the white ball and he bowls quick. When we faced England, we realised you need bowlers who bowl 140-145 and with Shadab coming back, I'm confident about my bowling attack"
Pakistan would begin its preparations for the World Cup 2019, as it takes on Afghanistan I their first warm-up match today (Friday) at Bristol County Ground.
