Babar Azam dismisses allegations of being ‘selfish player’
Dismissing the allegation of playing for himself rather than the team, Pakistan top order batsman Babar Azam has said that he bats according to the team’s plan.
“I play according to the team’s plan, and the fact is that I do not play for myself this is not my team but the team of Pakistan,” said Azam, at the post match presentation. “Coming to the match, my intention was not to play for myself, as the team was losing wickets my job was to build a partnership and not to throw my wicket as well,” he added.
The statement comes after Azam scored 112 runs off 108 deliveries against Afghanistan in Pakistan’s first World Cup warm-up match, but the century unfortunately ended in a losing cause, after cricketing minnows Afghanistan chased down the 263 runs target with three wickets to spare.
Talking about Pakistan’s lackluster bowling line, Azam admitted that the Men in Green need to work on this department. “We are obviously lacking in bowling, but we would cover it up and perform well in the next match,” said Azam.
Pakistan would play their second World Cup warm-up match against Bangladesh on Sunday 26th May.
