Former New Zealand cricket coach Mike Hesson is in contention to become the next coach of Pakistan cricket team, after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced to not renew contracts of head coach Mickey Arthur.

“Hesson is being lined up by Pakistan as Mickey Arthur's potential replacement as job vacancies open up around the cricket world,” quoted Stuff.co.nz. Hesson announced on Thursday in a tweet post that he would not be working with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Kings XI franchise and wish to thank them for the season I had in charge. Whilst disappointed not to be able to build on the work we did this year, I'm sure success isn't too far away for them. I wish them all the best for the future," Hesson wrote.

The development comes after the PCB announced on Wednesday that they would be axing head coach Mickey Arthur, alongside batting coach Grant Flower and bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, following Pakistan cricket team failure to reach the semifinals of the ICC World Cup 2019.

“PCB will be immediately undertaking a robust recruitment process after it decided not to renew the contracts of head coach Arthur, bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower and trainer Grant Luden,” the board said in a statement.

Hesson has coached the New Zealand for six years from 2012 to 2018, a tenure that features Black Caps memorable run at the 2015 World Cup.
