An Accountability Court on Friday granted 14-day physical remand of former managing director (MD) Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the multibillion rupees Karkey Rental Power (RPPs) scam. The NAB officials produced former MD PEPCO Rasool Khan Mehsud before Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir for obtaining his physical remand. The judge asked the accused if he has hired any counsel. The accused replied in negative.
The NAB prosecutor told the court that Bureau has arrested the accused the same day (Friday). The judge asked NAB official, "Have you conducted any investigation earlier in this case." He replied that NAB has conducted investigations but in the earlier reference Mehsud was not an accused. He told the court that there is allegation of receiving kickbacks and misusing authority against the accused. The NAB requested the court to grant physical remand of the accused in order to conduct further investigations from him and recover more record.
The court after hearing arguments approved the NAB's request and granted 14-day physical remand of the accused.
