ISLAMBAD: Former coach and chief selector Mohsin Hasan Khan said he wishes to see talented batsman Umar Akmal in the series against South Africa.
Talking to APP, Mohsin Hasan Khan said he hopes Umar will be considered for the selection of the team against South Africa as all is well with his health now.
Mohsin further said that he sees Asad Shafiq as the ideal replacement for captain Misbah ul haq in the 2015 World Cup.
He said Misbah is one of the best captains Pakistan team has ever got and under his captaincy the national team has earned victories at various occasions.
Some of his famous victories include the January 2012, Pakistan-England series in UAE where Pakistan won the Test series after whitewashing England by a 3-0 margin.
This was Misbah's biggest achievement as captain. Another was when Pakistan won the Asia Cup under Misbah's captaincy. Pakistan defeated Bangladesh in final to win Asia Cup.
He became only second Pakistani captain to win the Asia Cup after Moin Khan. In Dec 2012, Pakistan toured India, where they went with a young and new team. Pakistan won 2-1 in the 3 match ODI series under Misbah.
Mohsin Hasan Khan said the most amazing aspect about Misbah is his unflappable temperament. "The only players I see can replace a captain like Misbah is Asad Shafiq," he added.
Mohsin Hasan Khan further said the PCB missed an excellent opportunity for grooming youngsters for the 2015 World Cup in the series against Zimbabwe and West Indies.
"Seniors should have rested for the tour as to give youngsters a chance," he said adding that the seniors should have called in for the series against South Africa and Sri Lanka to be held in UAE later this year.
The former chief selector said, "by seeing our team losing against the lowest raked Zimbabwe I feel like our players are not ready to play international cricket yet".
