ECP needs to facilitate observers in line with commitment to electoral transparency: Pervaiz Rashid

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid said on Sunday that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) needs to facilitate election observers in line with its commitment to electoral transparency.

In a statement, the minister said that independent observation of elections by organizations like The Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has contributed to the transparency of elections.

He said that the observers systematically gather objective information about the quality of election which assists in reforms process.

The issue of security clearance should be streamlined and simplified so that election observers including Pakistani citizen volunteers could play their role of observing elections and perform their duties, the minister added.

The minister requested the ECP to reconsider its decision as the democratic Government is committed to complete transparency.
