European car sales rebound in August: Trade data
BRUSSELS: New car sales rebounded in Europe in August after falling for two months in a row, industry figures showed on Friday.
A total of 753,709 new cars were registered in the European Union last month, up 7.7 percent from August 2010, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
Car sales had fallen by 2.0 percent in July and 8.1 percent in June.
In the biggest markets, sales rose in August by 18.3 percent in Germany, 7.3 percent in Britain, 5.9 percent in Spain, 3.1 percent in France and 1.5 percent in Italy.
In the first eight months of the year, a total of 8,888,793 new cars were registered in the EU, excluding Malta and Cyprus, a drop of 1.3 percent compared to the same period last year.
