Ghee, cooking oil production increase by 4.91, 9.22pc respectively

ISLAMABAD: Vegetable ghee and cooking oil production during last 7 months of current financial year witnessed 4.91 percent and 9.22 percent growth respectively as compared to corresponding period of last year.

According the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), about 721,527 tons of vegetable ghee were produced during the period from July-January, 2015-16 as compared to 687,759 metric tons produced during same period of last year.

On other hand, about 105,736 metric tons of vegetable ghee produced during the month of January as compared to the manufacturing of 97,763 metric tons of same month of last financial year.

Meanwhile, cooking oil producing also witnessed an increase of 9.22 percent in last 7 months and about 228,029 tons of the commodity produced as compared to 208,775 tons of same period last year, the data reveled.

During the month of January, 2016 about 32,738 metric tons of cooking oil was produced to fulfill the domestic requirements against 29,411 metric tons produced during same month of last year, it added.

The data reveled that production of blended tea registered 14.48 percent growth as 11,390 tons of tea produced as compared to the production of 71,086 tons of same period last year.

However, wheat and grain milling reduced by 2.72 percent in seven months of current financial year as it went down from 3,546,995 tons to 3,450,531 tons.

From July-January, 2015-16 soft drinks production grew by 5.5 percent as about 1,497,843 liters of soft drinks as compared to 1,425,889 liters of same period of last year, it added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the country's Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) sector has witnessed growth of 4.12 percent during the first seven months of current fiscal year (2015 16) as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The Quantum Index Numbers (QIM) of large scale manufacturing industries was recorded at 128.51 points during July January (2015 16) against 123.42 points during same period of last year, revealed data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
