Federal Minister for Water and Power Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has said that general elections will be held as per schedule and the present assemblies will continue playing role for strengthening democratic in situations.
He was addressing a meeting of Pakistan Peoples Party (Sherpao) Peshawar District here at Peoples House on Saturday.
The meeting reviewed organisational matters and activities of the party.
Sherpao contended that assemblies would complete their term and the electorate would elect new assemblies in 2007.
He said the country has been put on the track of democracy and President General Pervez Musharraf had fulfilled all promises with the nation by holding general elections within due time.
He said the continuation of the incumbent disposition genuine democracy would work for the establishment of a just and egalitarian society in the country.
He called upon party workers to prepare for local bodies polls which would be held in 2005 on party basis.
He said PPP-(S) had to work hard for good performance in these elections. He viewed that our performance would have drastic impact on the general elections. He maintained that party workers should work hard for local bodies polls.
The minister said that legal and technical lacuna in the merger of both factions of PPPP (Patriots) and PPP (Sherpao) had now been removed and it would soon be registered in the name of PPP that would truly represent the aspirations of companions of Zuifiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Hayat Sherpao.
He claimed that PPP would provide a liberal, progressive and democratic platform to ideological workers and it would work for the betterment of the masses.
He eulogised the policies of the federal government saying that these had stabilised the national economy and the nation was receiving benefits of these policies.
He said that effective economic policies had put the national economy on the right track and dependency on foreign assistance had been minimised to a great extent.
He hailed the reduction in the strength of army and hoped that it would have pleasant effect on the economy and national defence.
The minister said that every effort would be made to resolve problems of the masses. He assured that efficiency of Wapda would be further improved to redress the grievances of the general public.
He directed Wapda officials to address peoples problems with national and patriotic zeal.
