Federal Minister for Water & Power Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has said that the generation of electricity through use of renewable sources is the need of the hour yo meet increasing power demand.
He expressed these views during a meeting with the delegation of Alternate Energy Board (AEB) led by its chairman, Air Marshal Shahid Hamid (Retd) here on Tuesday.
Secretary AEB Brig Dr Naseem Ahmed Khan, Additional Secretary Water & Power Riaz Ahmed Khan and Dr S M Bhutta also attended the meeting.
The chairman AEB gave a detailed briefing on the working of the board and the projects being undertaken by the Board for generation of electricity through alternate sources including wind and solar energy.
The Minister appreciated the efforts of the Board and said that Pakistan has immense potential for generation of electricity through alternate resources, which needs to be expedited to meet the ever increasing demand.
The Minister said that energy from alternate resources may help electrify remote areas at a great distance from the main grid and where it is more economical and affordable to provide clean and reliable energy from sun and wind.
The Minister said that the AEB is doing a good job in developing alternate energy sources in the country and assured the AEB of every possible help in this regard. He said that the ministry would help AEB in generation of affordable and renewable energy from alternate sources.
The Minister also said that the energy from alternate sources is clean, pollution-free and thus a help to the environment. He said that we should encourage production of electricity through alternate sources for our common future.
