Jamali and Shujaat meet Musharraf: PPO to be amended
President General Pervez Musharraf has decided to amend the Political Parties Ordinance (PPO) 2001.
Under the amendment, the politicians holding the party portfolios can also be eligible to hold any official position in the government.
The decision to this effect was made during the tripartite meeting between President General Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.
Sources told NNI that important decisions about the reorganisation of combined PML were made during the meeting. It was decided that the amendment in the PPO will be issued after the end of current Senate session.
It was also decided that Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali will be the new secretary general of combined Pakistan Muslim League. He will be nominated as secretary general during the general council meeting of the unified PML after the merger of all factions which will be held on May 12 while Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain will decide other party portfolios.
Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has been appointed as co-ordinator for making arrangements for the general council meeting on May 12.
Meanwhile, the decision taken by Prime Minister Jamali and Chaudhry Shujaat during the unification of PML meeting on Monday about the appointment of chief organisers at the central and provincial level has been withdrawn.
It was also decided that one senior vice president would be appointed at the central and the provincial level.
After the amendment, Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali will be eligible to hold both the party and the government portfolios. The presidential ordinance will be ratified from both National Assembly and the Senate at a later stage.
