The fifth and last unit of the Ghazi Barotha Hydropower Project (GBHP) has gone into commercial operation on Wednesday after reliability test as planned and scheduled.
It may be recalled that four units of the power project, each 290 megawatt, capable of generating 1160 megawatts have already been commissioned and providing the energy to the national grid.
The first unit was put to commercial operation on July 26, 2003, second on August 16, 2003, third on October 18, 2003 and fourth on January 20, 2004. With going into commercial operation of the fifth and last unit, the designed 1450-megawatt power will be available to the national grid from the Ghazi Barotha Hydropower Project.
